The death of Alexei Navalny is a great tragedy. Whatever its immediate cause, Alexey became a victim of political repression. Navalny was an opponent of the regime and ended up in prison mainly for his political activities.  The conditions of his detention, the numerous incarcerations in the SHIZO¹A penal isolation unit (SHIZO) is a department of a correctional institution where cells for violators of the detention regime are located are nothing but torture and boundless physical and moral torture, hypocritical and cruel committed by the authorities, who stop at nothing to suppress their opponents.

The tragedy that happened once again shows that Russia needs peace, needs radical reform of the entire law enforcement and judicial system, reform of the Federal Penitentiary Service, an end to politically motivated sentencing, and the early release of all those who ended up in prison for criticizing the authorities. The health of Vladimir Kara-Murza and Alexey Gorinov is of endless concern now…

It is well known that Alexei Navalny was a member of the Yabloko party for eight years. Our views have long diverged, we argued and criticized each other. However, as a human being, we always wished him health and strength to withstand terrible trials. I share the terrible grief of the family!

The death of Alexei Navalny once again tragically highlights the daily loss of life in the fighting and the need for a ceasefire.  There is nothing more precious than human life, regardless of any political beliefs and circumstances. Everything that is happening today and the looming prospect is terrifying.

I express my deep and sincere condolences to the parents, brother, wife and children of Alexei Navalny.
