15 years have passed since the death of Yuri Shchekochikhin, journalist and Yabloko’s MP. One of the most honest and courageous journalists in the history of modern Russia was brutally murdered. There was virtually no investigation – the case of Shchekochikhin’s death was closed several times without giving any result. But those who knew Yuri Petrovich Shchekochikhin, who worked with him, know what was there behind his death. Throughout his life Yuri Shchekochikhin fought for the truth, wrote about corruption in the Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Public Prosecutor General’s Office, and investigated explosions of blocks of flats in Moscow and Volgodonsk. Shchekochikhin was incompatible with this deceitful and criminal system, and it killed him.
Today, all of us, the whole society, the whole of Russia, miss such journalists like Yuri Shchekochikhin. Unfortunately, not everyone understands this. But the time will come when the truth will return to people, and then they will teach [students] journalism on the books and works by Shchekochikhin.
